Wrike – Project Communications

“The job of a manager . . . is to turn one person’s particular talent into performance.”
― Julie Zhuo, The Making of a Manager: What to Do When Everyone Looks to You

No matter how talented my team is (and believe me they are) they can’t perform when directions are confusing. Or if what I believe to be a shared language is actually not understood by everyone (hello association acronyms). So my goal is to make sure any question about a project can be answered by looking through the task/project in our PM tool.

Part of the issues I have seen with my projects is that communications were either unclear, clear but forgotten or directions misplaced. To mitigate from this issue happening I have stated I will institute project kick-offs and status meetings but I will also only use Wrike for project updates. (What is wrike?)

Currently I use slack, Wrike and email as methods of communication for projects. From now on I will only be putting details in Wrike so that not only the person that needs the info right away will see it but also everyone involved in the project. This will also cut down on “lost” communication that team members can’t find because they can’t remember the method of communication. It will assist with any time we could need one designer to pinch hit for another incase of leave or other priorities.

Great work on this, Ren! I love the introspection and learning about your thought processes. Also, what a cool format to use a website and blog!
